An approach from the British Council, followed by a visit from Pompey Study Centre
to Jakarta led to nine Pompey Double Clubs in nine Muhammadiah schools in Jakarta
and Central Java. In Indonesia, the Double Club resources are downloaded each week
and are used to teach English and each school has a dedicated classroom with Pompey
pictures and posters; once in the room, only English may be spoken. visit to Jogjakarta
next Summer.
The coaching sessions that follow each lesson are delivered by the Asia Soccer Academy
and pupils work to the same common assessment framework as the pupils in Portsmouth.
The "winning" pupils from Indonesia visited Pompey the week of the FA Cup final
and had a fantastic week which included meeting the Pompey Squad, cultural visits
throughout the City and two of the pupils, along with their coach, even came to
watch Pompey's victory at Wembley. We are hoping that a delegation of Pompey students
will pay a return
visit to Indonesia.
