Each school has a designated 'Double Club' classroom that has been 'Pompified' with
lots of Pompey posters. They also have a designated Double Club teacher from within
the school, who wears their Pompey kit to deliver the sessions. The resources produced
for the classroom are all brightly coloured to excite and inspire the pupils and
use topical events/themes related to Pompey and football in general.
These resources also feature current match photos and data. Every school receives
a huge pack of colour printed resources each week to support the learning in the
classroom plus sets of football themed guided reading books, word or number games
and a weekly overview for the teacher.
The ‘double’ aspect of the programme means that children follow their
classroom activities, with a session of football coaching, which is planned by our
FA Qualified Double Club football coach. Each session is designed so that the children
work on developing a new football skill each week. They also learn all about the
importance of a proper warm-up, how to work as a team, fair play and participate
in small sided games against one another.
Each pupil taking part will also have an opportunity to show off their newly acquired
football skills by playing in the Double Club Tournament that will take place at
the end of each term, with every school participating. This tournament will be won
by the team who not only wins their matches but also shows discipline on the pitch,
fair play and respect to their teammates, opponents and the referee, with points
being awarded for all of these elements.
Each Double Club will also go ‘on tour’ to Fratton Park and the Study
Centre where they will have an opportunity to visit the stadium and will use their
experiences to produce some exciting work on the iMac computers at the Study Centre,
including the production of their own DVD.
At the end of each term, every Double Club pupil and their family is invited to
a night of celebration at Fratton Park. All students are presented with certificates
of achievement and Double Club prizes by a Pompey player. Exceptional achievers
will receive an additional certificate and fantastic prize.
